Parking Brake Switch Repair

X1 (F48), X2 (F39), 2 Series Active/Grand Tourer (F45/F46)

The parking brake switch on the X1, X2 and 2 Series Active/Grand Tourer tends to crack and eventually fail.  We see this on approximatley 75% of the vehicles entering the workshop.

A brand new new switch fitted including labour is circa £150 but we are able to repair the switch for £50 including labour.  We then warranty the repair for 12-months.

Inspect your parking brake switch closely - ideally with a torch or in a well lit area.  The crack often looks like a scratch that runs more or less horizontally across the switch.  Look at the picture to the left as an example.  Left in this condition, the switch will fail and snap off in your hand.  Once it does, you will not be able to apply the parking brake.  One unfortunate customer had this happen the day before his MOT - fortunately we were on hand to repair the switch so the vehicle could pass the MOT.

The repair takes approximately 30-minutes to perform.
